Micro-rolling, aka derma-rolling, aka micro-needling, and any other name it goes by, has captured the beauty world by storm. And in my opinion, rightfully so. If you are looking for a game changer in your beauty and skincare routine, this might just be it!
Micro-rolling is a treatment tool that uses hundreds of tiny needles to puncture the layers of the skin, usually the first layer. This process works with your skin in two ways. First, the channels created by the needles help boost the absorption of skincare products by up to 90%, um yes please! Secondly, the needles create micro-injuries to the skin, this creates signals of recovery from the body. This response helps to rejuvenate the skin by boosting collagen production, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and helps with the overall texture of your skin. This treatment is also great for smoothing and plumping lips and my personal favorite, helping to diminish the appearance of under eye dark circles and bags. Yes!!! If you read my post on my under eye heroes, this tool was at the top of the list. Rolling 3 to 5 times a week is recommended for best results.
Because we are dealing with needles let’s talk a little safety. At home, micro-rolling should be done with a .3mm or smaller needle size. Using any larger needle size should be done by a professional. You must disinfect your roller after each use. Use 90% alcohol and soak the roller part for 5 min, air dry and store in its container. Do not roll over any active acne, if you do clean your roller immediately. Replace your micro roller every 30 to 45 days, or every 15 to 20 uses. It is not advised to use retinol or vitamin C products at the exact same time as micro-rolling because of the higher absorption rate, which can cause irritation. Some of our favorite products to use in conjunction with micro-rolling are:
Once you are ready to dive into the world on micro-rolling you will be so happy that you did. It is a five minute routine that you will wonder how you ever lived without!
~Begin with a cleansed and toned face.
~Apply a thin layer of your product or serum.
~Gently but firmly roll your micro-roller over your skin vertically, horizontally, and diagonally, both ways. (See video below) Pay special attention to your problem areas but take special care around the eyes and other delicate places on the face and neck. Some prefer to divide their face into sections, which is what I do. You may also choose to start with only certain areas in the beginning to make the process less intimidating.
~Once completely done rolling, apply another layer of your product or serum and then layer your other products as normal.
~Clean your roller immediately after use and store in its container.
We do carry a great micro-roller that is a great price, it is the Stacked Skincare micro-roller pictured below.
